Industrial Designer
Job Summary
Industrial Designers research & develop ideas & processes for new products, improve the performance & design of existing products, and coordinate with the team on production of final products. Utilizing CAD software, Industrial Designers prepare accurate & to-scale layouts, shop/assembly drawings, schematics, details, designs, and programs according to applicable client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Conceive, research, design, & prototype unique products related to consumer goods, art, and architecture
Hand-sketch product concepts, complete 3D CAD models, and submit concept drawings for review & revision
Create detailed & accurate drawings & 3D models with derivative datasets that can withstand future modification, all the way down to individual parts for production
Research & obtain standards & codes required by clients to develop concepts & plans
Evaluate the function, safety, & appearance of products to ensure they have a practical design that can be produced profitably
Collaborate with the team to review engineering & production drawings to verify adherence to standard practices, ensure quality control, production feasibility, and desired aesthetics
Collaborate & take direction from engineers & executives to research drawings, catalogs, & sketches to develop detailed, dimensioned models and drawings
Identify & clarify any inconsistencies in specifications
Update & submit approvals/designs multiple times as necessary to meet all requirements
Present sketches & designs and perform demonstrations of product prototypes for the approval of clients
Be precise, organized, creative, mostly autonomous, and able to meet deadlines
Exhibit excellent document control & organization, digitally & physically
Qualifications
BA/BS or equivalent combination of education & work experience in design engineering, industrial design, or product design
4+ years of related professional experience in drafting/design for CNC precision machining
Established ability/body of work that demonstrates strong aesthetic design skills & creativity and an ability to convey concepts in hand-drawn sketches
Ability to conceive unique concepts for consumer goods, art, and architectural products lines
Fluid in SolidWorks and/or Unigraphics software
Knowledge of CNC machining processes, programming, & materials
Knowledge of metal fabrication processes/drawing & welding symbols
Solid understanding of different construction & manufacturing methods
Comprehensive knowledge of the qualities of various materials; especially metals
In depth knowledge of design, physics, engineering, and mathematics
Excellent time management, organization, & independent judgement skills
Strong creativity and acute attention to detail
Ability to read, understand, & interpret part documents & plans/drawings/schematics
Outgoing, personable, team-player with excellent communication skills in both verbal & written English
This is an ITAR regulated facility; must be a Citizen or national of the United States or lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence under the Immigration Nationality Act
